  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Paraná do Marará." Assumed that Igarapé Marará is the proper locality. Also, unable to find the location of "B-1 B-2." Instead, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Igarapé Marará, a tributary of Rio Catrimani (of Rio Branco) in Mun. Caracaraí, Roraima. Referred to "Fôlha Parima NA-20" [map] to locate Igarapé Marará (Carta do Brasil ao Milionésimo, Fôlha Parima NA-20 [map]. 1:1,000,000. In: Faissol, Speridião et. al. Carta Internacional do Mundo ao Milionésimo. 2nd edition. Rio de Janeiro: Instituto brasileiro de geografia e estatistica, 1972. p. 3). Used the reference map and Google Maps - Earth View to find Igarapé Marará. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Igarapé Marará (confluence of Igarapé Marará and Rio Catrimani) and the headwaters of the stream (approximated through the dense forest cover), then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along Igarapé Marará nearest to the midpoint of the line; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate midpoint of the stream, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the stream. Input coordinates, linear extent (11280.0 m), and measurement error (50 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
