Brazil. Maranhão. Bom Jardim Mun. Posto Indígena Carú (FUNAI Post - Guajajara Indians), along Rio Pindaré near junction of Rio Carú and Rio Pindaré.

Habitat

In low moist area along stream, remnant of primary forest.

Description

Palm 8 m. tall; dbh 15 cm; caespitose; 12 contemporaneous leaves. Pinnae 50-52 per side, regularly deposited and somewhat drooping. Leaf sheath 94 cm. wide x 26 cm. in circumference; petiole 24 cm. long; rachis 2.67 m long. Pinnae: basal 44.5 cm. long x 1.0 cm. wide; middle 81 cm long x 3.0 cm. wide; apical 44 cm. long x 0.6 cm. wide. Crownshaft light green; 3 inflorescences with green fruit; another inflorescence with very young fruit and another still in flower. Inflorescence primary axis 59 cm. long; rachillae 89, range 39.5-70.5 cm. long. Prophyll 64 cm. long x 7.5 cm. wide; bract 95 cm. cm. x 19 cm. in circumference. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
