Growing on the banks of the River Preto.

Description
Clumped palm, with a group of trunks to 5 m. covered in short (to 2 cm.) woody spines. Blade of frond 1 m long x 1.6 m. broad, divided to near base into c. 70 divisions; stipe c. 80 cm. Inflorescences to 80 cm. long with c. 15 floriferous bracts on each side of axis; ascending when with few fruits, pendent with many. Flowers yellow-green. Small, young leaves selected for herbarium specimens. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
