Habitat
Coarse carbonate alluvium sloping 20° SW. Mixed desert scrub with Atriplex, Ephedra, Lepidospartum, Gutierrezia, and Stanleya. Frequent on rocky slopes above 6000 ft.

Description
Branched perennial with several joints from base to 4 dm high, many long white spines from each areole, petals orange-yellow, 4 cm. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
