Picea engelmannii-Pseudotsuga menziesii-Abies lasiocarpa forest with understory of Arnica cordifolia, Stellaria jamesiana, Achillea millefolium, Osmorhiza depauperata, & Mertensia arizonica. Soil gray or reddish clay derived from volcanic strata or Claron Formation.
