    In garden, with Malva neglecta, Poa annua, Galinsoga, Portulaca oleracea, Chenopodium album. Common weed.

  • Description

    Much-branched, sprawling herb, becoming somewhat woody at base, about 1 m. tall, but stems up to 1.5 m. long. Corolla lobes white, 3 mm long, 1.7 mm wide. Fruit green, the older ones turning rather dull dark purple when ripe, less shiny than the green ones. Fruit with clear juice and green pulp around the seeds. Number of fruits counted on 85 inflorescences: 1 fruit/on 2 inflorescences; 2/11; 3/15; 4/20; 5/20; 6/14; 7/3. Five ripe fruits counted had 89, 91, 97, 98 and 98 seeds, the average = 94.6 seeds per fruit. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fruit.
