  • Description

    Herb 8 dm. tall, with single strong erect central stem which divides into nearly horizontal branches, the main stem with conspicuous soft spiny-toothed wings on angles. Fruiting peduncles strong, spreading to erect, at right angles to stem, rarely reflexed; pedicels spreading; not many flowering; fruiting calyx spreading to slightly recurved; coroldla white, with yellow-green star in center, recurved; anthers dull orange-brown on outside, purple on inside but this scarcely visible unless anther cone dissected. Fruit dark purple, almost black, with dull gloss, juicy, the juice light purple when fruit ripe; seeds surrounded by deep purple pulp. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fruit.
