Here named for Prof. Pablo Handel, of the Collegio Nacional at
Asuncion, who frequently accompanied the writer: in bis botanical
| excursions in Paraguay, and by*, his knowledge of the country and
the languagesof the people, and his friendly assistance, contributed
much towards the collection.
A shrubby plant, strict and erefet below, twining on the limbs
of shrubs above, 2-3 m. in height. Stem very smooth, strongly
I 5-angled. Leaves few, linear or linear-lanceolate, entire, glabr<ÿ ^
; Flowers blue, in terminal bractless cymes. Berries-black.
