Costa Rica. Near the juncture of the Provinces of Alajuela, Guanacaste, and Puntarenas. High ridge north of the television relay tower above Monteverde and bordering the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.

Habitat
Along trail in elfin forest in partial shade. Elfin forest on steep slopes and ridges with taller cloud forest in protected sites.

Description
Herb 0.3-1 m. tall, tuber bearing; corollas bluish-purple; fruits pendulous; stem, petiole, rachis, pedicels, calyx purplish, the leaves purplish below. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
