Habitat
Dry grassland (Andropogon spp. - Stipa - Bouteloua - Aegopogon) -- savannah (small trees of Pseudosmodingium perniciosum and Acacia-Mimosa scrub) with scattered Agave and Eryngium. Frequent? (3 plants in immediate vicinity). On undulating rocky (noncalcareous) terrain.

Description
4 m tall, crown 5 m across. Flowers rich violet. Small "tree", 4 m tall, crown 5 m across. Dichotomously branched, 1-trunked, 4-5" dbh. Phenology of specimen: Fertile, Fruit.
