Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Uitinga-Pará;" instead georeferenced to the geographic center of river Rio Tonantins in município Tonantins, Amazonas. Referred to Traveling Luck website, "Traveling Luck for Rio Tonantins, Amazonas, Brazil," for location information for Rio Tonantins (http://travelingluck.com/South+America/Brazil/Amazonas/_3661892_Rio+Tonantins.html). Using the reference map and Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Tonantins, a tributary of Rio Solimões. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the mouth of the river (at confluence of Rio Tonantins and Rio Solimões) and the source of the river (approximated through the dense forest cover), then halved this distance to approximate the location of the geographic midpoint of Rio Tonantins. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint, on the adjacent shore of the river. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of Rio Tonantins, 44480.6 m.), and measurement error (.1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
