    Mexico. Hidalgo. Cerro de Santa Monica, N. of Santa Monica, 40 km. NW of APAM, on Pachuca highway. NW slopes.

  • Habitat

    Lower slopes heavily eroded, covered by low, spiny shrubs, cactus, agaves. Middle slopes characterized by large boulders of andesite and basalt amidst which grow open stands of the scrub-oak (tresmole) with gnarled trunks, spreading branches, to 7 m. high. One of few areas within Apan region with mature specimens of tresmole oak. Shrubs, grasses, etc. form understory in open scrub-oak forest.
