Habitat
Bosque de Pinos. Stand of Pinus hartwegii (the only tree at this altitude) with tussock grasses, on steep rocky slopes nearing the tree line (ca. 4000 m.).

Herb with tubers, the tubers watery, nearly tasteless. Flowers purple. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
