"On sheet at K: 'Second growth thickets, damp places or near the coast. Alt. 1000 ft. to near sea level. June-Jan. 1890. Herb or suffrutescent to 2 or 2½ ft. high. Not common; perhaps an introduced species; the negroes sometimes cultivate it for ornament. Flowers white; berry hard, globular. 1 inch diam. scarlet'."
