Habitat
Tall tropical evergreen forest, flat.

Description
Shrub 12 m. tall, 15 cm. in diam.; trunk with some spines; wood soft, white. Corolla rich purple, fading to nearly white, usually only 1 open per inflorescence except on vigorous shoots which may have many. Fruit green, mostly 1 per inflorescence, the larger ones juicy within, the subtending calyx with 5 prominent swellings. When growing in open, with ± same growth form as S. wrightii Benth., i.e. with central trunk and whorls of horizontal and ascending branches. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
