Habitat
Growing on open, turf banks, where water seeps through constantly from many springs.

Description
Flowers bright magenta red, darker inside and light on the reverse. Stamens prominent, pale yellow. Fls. 1 1/4" diam. Leaves forming basal mats, from running stems, to 2 ft. across. Fl-stems slender, upright to 18" tall. Stems and calyces covered with short, deep-red hairs. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
