Habitat
Low, open canopy ridge top cloud forest. Low canopy (4-6 m), heavy rainfall (400+ in/yr). Vegetation dominated by small trees and shrubs (Pandanus patina, Glochidion, Garcinia) covered in epiphytic ferns and mosses, very shallow soil.

Description
Small tree, 3-4 m tall, flowers 1 cm across, "clawed" corolla, 4 petals, 4 sepals, 8 stamens, small "crown" at tip of pistil, gynecium red at base, scentless. Leaves opposite, glabrous, leathery, new leaves reddish, reticulate venation very obvious on abaxial surface.
