  • Location

Peru. Lima. Cañete Prov. Lunahuaná (coastal valley of Cañete), Barrio Caltopia.

  • Description

Plants habitually resembling potatoes. Petals white with violet stripes, anthers yellow. Fruits edible but now immature. Light green fruit skin. Pericarp greenish. Of ca. 10 fruits examined all were with numerous seeds. Propagated by cuttings. Planted in February 1989, harvest begins now (end of August) and lasts until December 89. We observed red spider. Peasant says this is the most serious pest and can hardly be controlled at higher (warmer) parts of the valley where 'pepino dulce' cultivation would principally be possible. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fertile, Fruit.
