  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the geographic center of Rio Bia, on adjacent land. Referred to map "Mapa 4 - Sistema Del Rio Amazonas" for location information about Rio Bia ("The inland waters of Latin America/Las aguas continentales de America Latina." Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations: Fisheries and Aquaculture Department, 2013. http://www.fao.org/docrep/008/ad770b/AD770B05.gif). Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Bia, a tributary of Rio Jutaí in Amazonas, BR. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line starting at the mouth of Rio Bia (where Rio Bia branches off from Rio Jutaí) to the farthest extent of Rio Bia (where it divides into two unmarked rivers); halved this extent to approximate the location of the midpoint of the river. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint of the river, on the adjacent land. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of Rio Bia, 107952 m.), and uncertainty radius (1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
