Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to Geonames.org for location information for island "Guachapita," otherwise known as Isla Guachatita (http://www.geonames.org/maps/google_2_-66.85.html). Georeferenced to the geographic midpoint of Rio Casiquiare between the mouth of the river and the geographic center of Isla Guachatita in Mun. Río Negro, Amazonas, Venezuela. Using the reference material and Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Casiquiare between the mouth of the river (confluence of Rio Casiquiare and Rio Negro) and Isla Guachatita. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the two sites along the river then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of this line. Chose a point along the shore of the river nearest to the midpoint of the line; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the segment of the river. Input coordinates, linear extent (15098.3 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
