  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Três Bocas;" georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Rio Bacajá in Altamira, Pará. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Bacajá, a tributary of Rio Xingu. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the mouth of Rio Bacajá (confluence of Rio Bacajá and Rio Xingu) and the source of Rio Bacajá (where two unnamed rivers join to form Rio Bacajá), then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of Rio Bacajá. Measured to approximately this calculated distance from one extreme of the river toward the center; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the geographic midpoint of the river. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the river, 109166 m.), and measurement error (1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
