Eremocaulon aureofimbriatum Söderström & Londono
Municipio Ibirapitanga: road between Ubaitaba and Camamú
near crossing with BR 101. Open forest with tall trees at
top of hill, with dense undergrowth of heliconias and vines,
evidently old capoeira. Elev. l60m. Culms thick-walled,
not thorny, arising singly—several meters apart, 15-2Qm
tall. Culm leaves persistent and rotting in place: sheath
thick, hard, covered with dense mat of brown hairs that
rub off easily; blade erect when new but reflexed at matu-
rity. Branch complement: many branches breaking simultan-
eously with one dominant one that develops on higher nodes,
reaching out over trees for support and rebranching, pro-
ducing a graceful foliage that hangs from.the trees. Lea-
ves wilt soon after culm is severed.
