  • Description

Cultivated or escaped herb to 1m tall. Similar to the cultivated plant "Lulo", but this more spiny. Sections of veins on upper side of leaves, especially around thorns, with purple color. Anthers yellow, petals white, downy on outside. Some fruits covered with downy brown hairs to 1cm long. Similar to S. galeatum, but with larger spines and with the branches of the stellate hairs longer and thinner. Hairs branch from the base in this, unlike those of S. hirtum. Similar to S. quitoense, but this with straighter spines on the stem, petiole, etc. and with all but the central of the hair branches more reduced. Also, similar to S. trachyphyllum HBK, but with the rays of the branched hairs a little longer and with hairs having a short stalk rather than none. This seems to be generally a taller plant. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
