  • Description

    Palm 5 m tall, diam of trunk is 7 cm, trunk covered with remnants of leaf bases, base of trunk enlarged, with roots apparent. Leaves pinnate, 7 in tuft, rachis + petiole ca 1.5 m long, 127 pinnae arranged at various angles, grouped in clusteres of 4-6 along the rachis, pinnae dark green above, light green below, with small papery trichomes 5 mm long along underside of pinnae midribs, falling off older specimens. Petiole with light brown matted fibers. Infl. arising from leaf axils, panicle subtended by bract 78 cm long by 6.5 cm wide when open and prophyll 34 cm long by 3.5 cm wide. Panicle ca 55 cm lg when still in bud, rachillae 9, ca 25 cm lg each. Fruits small green, unripe. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
