    Grazed, thin chaco forest on slopes of small hills, with Aspidosperma, Anadenanthera, Schinopsis, Caesalpinia paraguariensis.

  • Description

    Tree 6 m tall, with spindle-shaped bottle trunk, 40 cm in diameter just above the ground, then swelling immediately to 90 cm. in diameter, to 3.5 m, then two twisted branches 20 cm in diameter; bark with large sharp spines. One of the only tree species here with green leaves at this time. Old fruit mostly just the 5 cottony "fingers", but some with brown seeds enveloped in fluff still being shed.
