Cultivated ornamental tree in Santa Cruz, Prov.
Andres Ibanez, alt. 420 m. Tree 4 m. tall, 55
cm. in diameter in swollen part; trunk narrow at
base, swollen in middle, with nearly horizontal
main branches; bark green, very shallowly fis-
sured in bright green lines, with abundant sharp
conical spines on trunk and large branches.
Flowers pale yellow, fully open (4:30 P.M.), the
old and fallen flowers dull white. A common or-
namental tree in the city, this the first one
seen with open flowers this year, said to flower
mainly in April or May when the trees are
leafless.
