Distribution
15- Hamosa ensiformis (M. E. Jones) Rydberg. Astragalus ensiformis M. E. Jones, Proc. Galif. Acad. II. 5: 658. 1895. Though I have placed this species next to H. drepanoloba and H. Paysonii, it is not closely related to either, differing in the firm pod and leaves, the low habit and the large scarious stipules. The corolla is unknown. Jones first described it under Astragalus ursinus, stating that the ‘flowers seem to be identical with those of anetinus, but paler.’ The type sheet, now at Pomona College, has no flowers. It is known only from the tyne q$lla%- tion from Pagumpa, Ariz., Jones 50950)1. 17. Hamosa ensiformis (M. E. Jones) Rydb. Bull. Torrey Club 54:21. 1927. Astragalus ensiformis M. E. Jones, Proc. A perennial, with a scaly rootstock; stem about 1 dm. high, purplish, sparingly strigose; leaves 5—8 cm. long, ascending; stipules large, broadly ovate, 1 cm. long, scarious, veiny; leaflets 13-17, green, oval or elliptic, rounded at the apex, 1—1.5 cm. long, glabrous above, sparingly strigose-canescent beneath; peduncles 5-8 cm. long, erect; bracts lanceolate, brown- ish-purple, 3 mm. long; pedicels short; calyx pubescent with dark and light hairs intermixed, the tube 5 mm. long, the teeth lanceolate, 1 mm. long; corolla unknown; pod linear-oblong, falcate, 2-2.5 cm. long, 5—6 mm. wide and 3 mm. thick, strigose, elliptic in cross-section, with prominent sutures.
