Description
Ascomata lirelliform, growing on thallus and apothecia of Bacidia diffracta, sessile, fusiform to " oblong, undivided to once branched, 0.3-0.5 H 0.2 mm, solitary and scattered or aggregated into irregular clusters, to 3 H 2 mm in size; disk concealed by appressed lips. Exciple brown-black, greenish black in KOH, entire, thickened below, to 50-60 :m thick. Hypothecium thin, colorless. Epihymenium yellow-brown (KOH-). Hymenium colorless, I+ patchily blue-green. Asci ovoid, with 8 " biseriately arranged spores. Ascospores remaining colorless, 3-septate, with thin halo, 13-15 x 4-4.5 :m. Pycnidia brown, " globose, ca. 100 :m mm across. Conidia rod-shaped, 4.5 H 1.0 :m. Distribution. Apparently common in the Ozark region and known also from Vermont and Wisconsin, but probably occurs throughout the range of its host which is widely distributed in eastern North America (see Ekman, 1996).
