    Submontane forest. Quercus oocarpa dominat with another Quercus sp. Gregarious. On soil.

  • Description

    Pileus 6-13 cm broad, convex, becoming plane, subviscid when wet, soon dry, matted subtomentose, or sometimes finely areolate, uniformly black or mottled black to chocolate brown, becoming blacker with age, even at the margin (i.e., not sulcate). Flesh white, staining red first then eventually black, up to 1 cm thick, with mild odor and taste. Lamellae adnate, subdistant, moderately thick, up to 1 cm broad, white at first becoming pale yellow (3A3) staining red then black, with even margins. Stipe 5-7 cm long, 1-4 cm broad, ±equal, white, glabrous to finely canescent, staining red then black; interior white, staining red then black. Basidiospores white in deposit. Phenology of specimen: Basidiomata.
