    In "carrascal", dense, relatively dry, low tree type of forest in sandy soil.

  • Description

    Forming small-medium clumps, decumbent at base or arching and climbing over other vegetation, ca. 12 m high. All plants except a few in flower. Culms solid, ca. 7-8 mm diam., a little yellow on mature plants, asperous on the lower part, smooth on the upper branches. Culm leaves persistant; on lower nodes rotting in place; blade very narrow reflexed, soon deciduous. Branch complement with a central dominant axis and 1 or 2 small branches on both sides, these also rebranching. Spikelets green when young, turning dark brownish at maturity. Anthers dark purple. Plants covered almost everywhere by inflorescences. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
