Eriogonum nidularium Coville, Cont. -U. S. Nat. Herb. 4;
186. 1893.
Eriogonum nidularium var. Luciense Jones, Cont. West.,
Bot. Ii: 17. 1903.	:
No. 8306, collected about the mouth of Silver canyon in
the White mountains opposite Laws, Inyo county. The calices
in these plants are dull red, their tips sometimes yellowish.
The incurving of the branches is not well marked in these speci-
mens since they are not old enough to fully show this character.
Mr. Jones has merely added to synonymy unless his variety luci-
ense proves to be distinct from E. nidularium., the designated
type of which is no. 963 of the Death Valley expedition, col-
lected in Cottonwood canyon, Panauiint mountains, Inyo county,
California, and it is plainly stated that “the ends of the branches
curve inward, forming a dense mass somewhat resembling a
bird’s-nest.” The species “without the incurved inflorescence”
to which Jones has tried to transfer the name nidularium is still
apparently without a name.
