  • Habitat

    Rolling to hilly terrain on leached sandy and clay sediments. Deciduous woodland with some savanna species, "cerrado" vegetation, with Attalea phalerata [Scheelea princeps], Astronium, Anadenanthera macrocarpa, Dilodendron bipinnatum, Tabebuia aurea, T. roseo-alba, Curatella americana.

  • Description

    Woody vine; main stem 4 cm. in diameter, with clusters of straight spines 3 cm. long; upper stems with only short recurved spines. Fruit turning light orange, slightly pyriform, 1.8-2.7 cm. in diameter, with one or two black seeds, many infected by insects. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
