Habitat
Campo cerrado on upland (or occasionally forest). Open marsh or dense secondary forest along streams. This habitat: abandoned cultivated field behind main house of fazenda, with dense growth of grasses & herbs 3-4 dm. tall. Originally cerrado vegetation. In sun. Poor soil, reddish-brown fine sand with a little clay.

In clumps, each with several fl. stalks. Stigmas light reddish-purple; anthers dark purple-brown. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
