Description
The seeds in the enclosed little package came from cones from a limb of the old cypress trees which stood along the coast near carmel-by-the -Sea, California. From its shape this cypress was known as the "ostrich tree," many photographs having been taken o account of the unusual and picturesque appearance. The tree was blown down and destroyed during a heavy wind storm last winter. I obtained the seeds while visiting at Carmel. Letter from A. A.Merritt to Curator of Museum, New York Botanical Garden, 27 Apr 1916. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
