    Weedy, grassy, sandy areas. With Cynodon dactylon, Panicum maximum, Parthenium hysterophorus.

  • Description

    Vine over grassy, weedy, sandy area. Inflorescence erect; flowers odorless (3:30 P.M., mostly overcast, were also open when observed at 7:30 A.M., and drizzling), very similar in structure to those of M. bracteosum but of very different color and the end of the inflorescence without the bracts of that species, the standard yellow-green, the keel light violet-purple, visited by a large black bee which forces the two wing petals apart, also by a yellow butterfly. Fruit held horizontally, green, then light brown.
