  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. The locality description does not specify a direction or a specific road traveled on from the town of Camacan [correct spelling]; therefore, georeferenced to 1.5 km (average of 1 and 2 km) 'No Direction' from the town of Camacan, in Mun. Camacan, Bahia. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the town of Camacan. Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs, found coordinates (final) for the approximate geographic center of the town. Using Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps), found the linear extent of the starting location of the offset, the town of Camacan, by measuring from the selected starting coordinates at the center of town to the farthest extent of the town (-15.4257578 -39.4828141). Input coordinates, linear extent (1.33022 km), distance (1.5 km), distance precision (1 km), and measurement error (0.0005 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Offset: Distance only). an additional 500 m was added to the uncertainty output from the MaNIS calculator to account for the 0.5 km difference between the distance ranges provided on the label and the average distance used for measuring the offset.
