Description
Shrub, like erect tree, stem terete, crooked, 2 inches thick, 15 feet high, branched from the middle; wood dingy white, quite brown and brittle, without odor or taste; bark thin, yellowish beneath the minutely checked yellowish-gray epidermis; branches divaricate, freely rebranched, the slender ultimate ones suberect; leaves terminal mostly, horizontal or descending, coriaceous, nearly flat, recurved especially toward the apex, slightly paler green beneath; ripe fruits with stalks brick-red, hanging in small clusters from the stem and main branches; fruits sour, soft, 3/8 inch thick with 2 juicy, deep pink seeds, normally 2-seeded and somewhat flattened. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
