Habitat
Medium forest, nearly flat to sloping, the soil sandy or with stones at base of hill. With Phenacospermum, Orbignya phalerata, Bertholletia excelsa.

Description
Tree 20 m. tall, 20 cm. in diam., with small conical mass to 0.5 m. high of fine roots at base; outer wood black, very hard. Massive sheathing petiole 75 cm. long, with dark brown fibers and stiff "sticks"; rachis of blade 4.25 m. long; leaflets green abo.
