Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the town of Serra Grande, in Mun. Uruçuca, Bahia. Using Wikimapia, located the coastal town of Serra Grande, the position of which was verified using a paper map ("Salvador" [map]. 1:1,000,000. In: Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia. Departamento de Cartografia. International Chart Of The World On The Millionth Scale: Brazil. Rio de Janeiro: 1972. page 32). Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs, found coordinates for the approximate geographic center of the town of Serra Grande. Because the center of the nearest named place, Barra do Sargi, is further from the center of Serra Grande than the extent of Serra Grande itself (Case A), used Distance Measurement Tool (Google maps) to determine the linear extent by measuring the distance to the nearest named place, Barra do Sargi, and halving that extent. Input coordinates, linear extent (2018.06 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the Uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Near a Named Place-Case A).
