Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. No place formally called "praia do Farol" [translated literally as: Lighthouse beach] could be found in the vicinity of Itacaré; however there is a lighthouse surrounded by multiple beaches at the northeastern tip of the city of Itacaré. For the purposes of this georeference, it was assumed that the beach referred to in the locality description as "praia do Farol" must be at or near to the position of this lighthouse, since no other lighthouses are visible in the area. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic midpoint between "Praia da Ribeira" and the most distant of the beaches near the Itacaré lighthouse, in Mun. Itacaré, Bahia. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Praia do Ribeira, and the Itacaré lighthouse. Beginning at the approximate geographic center of Praia do Ribeira (-14.2904443 -38.9847815), used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line to the most distant point along the coastline close to the Itacaré lighthouse (-14.2723868 -38.9868334), then having that distance to estimate the approximate geographic midpoint. Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs, found coordinates for the midpoint. This same distance, which constitutes the distance from the midpoint to each of the end points, was also used as the linear extent. Input coordinates, linear extent (1011.71 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Between Two Places).
