United States of America. California. Fresno Co. Mott L., 10,000', 1 1/2 miles from headwaters of North Fork Mono Creek, 2 1/4 miles west of 12,841' Red and White Mountain on Sierran crest. Lake faces southwest on step in 1500' glacial canyon.

Habitat
Penstemon (frequently only 1 flower whorl), other perennials, on very dry granitic soil of step south of outlet. Sparse stands small Pinus albicaulis, P. Murrayana, some Tsugas around lake; latter two to 10,500' protected slopes; P. monticola with them south and east slopes; P. albicaulis Krumholtz to 11,500' crests where footholds.
