    Bolivia. El Beni. Vaca Díez Prov. Tumichucua, banks of Laguna Tumichucua, an oxbow lake on the floodplain of the Rio Beni, 18 km. (by air) SW of Riberalta.

  • Habitat

    Weedy areas around the settlement, on high, non-inundated bank. Abundant in certain kinds of second-growth habitats, seen in many places on road from here to Riberalta through tropical evergreen forest.

  • Description

    Shrub 2 m. tall. Hairs yellowish, especially in inflorescence and calyx. Flowers odorless but open (mid-afternoon); corolla deep violet when opening, nearly white later, often all color stages present in one inflorescence, as in S. wrightii Benth. Fruit globose, the calyx much swollen at the base. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
