  • Description

    Palm, procumbent. Stem procumbent, rooting, subterranean, to 30 cm. long, diam. 4 cm.; leaves contemporary 9; sheath not or scarcely encircling stem 10-12 cm. long, slightly fibrous at margin; petiole 29-46 cm., rounded below, flat above; rachis 30-70 cm., nearly entire in a few leaves, to irregularly pinnate in most leaves with 2-4 ceveral ribbed segments per side, these 3-9 cm. wide, to 60 cm. long, glossy green above, lighter green below; inflorescence interfoliar, arching, peduncle 21-55 cm. long, 8 mm.- 1 cm. wide, flattened, prophyll 12-22 cm. long, inserted at base of peduncle, persistent but becoming fibrous in fruit; peduncular bract 11-30 cm. long, finely striate without, hooding rachillae, rachillae 2-4, red; fruits green; endosperm apparently homogenous.
