  • Description

    PILEUS 4-12(24) cm broad, depressed with inrolled margin when young, expanding and becoming decurved and broadly infundibuliform or deeply depressed; surface dry, matted tomentose at first, eventually fibrillose to recurved scaly at disc, 5A3 at first, then browner near 6C6 at disc and paler (whitish) toward margin; margin inrolled, then cottony and eventually lacking the roll, remaining appressed fibrillose to tomentose. FLESH white, 8-15 mm thick, unchanging, acrid within 10-15 seconds, staining lamellae 6C7, not staining white paper. LAMELLAE subdecurrent to decurrent, subdistant, thick and waxy, sometimes forked, up to 1 cm broad, staining brownish; edges sharp and even. STIPE 3-5 cm long, 1.1-3.5 cm broad, equal and straight or sometimes curved, solid ñhard and durable; surface dry, not scrobiculate, white from apex to base, stained brownish (like lamellae) where injured, tomentose to pubescent or short subvillous. SPORES white in fresh deposit.
