  • Description

    Pileus 2-9 cm broad, convex, tacky to subviscid, even and glabrous, apple red (10E8) often developing yellow spots here and ther with age, with a slightly projecting, sterile, pale yellow margin. Flesh 1-1.5 cm thick, pale yellow, changing to blue with exposure, eventually fading and becoming white, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnate to depressed around the stipe, pale yellow, changing to blue green with exposure; pores < 1 mm broad, with clear yellow moisture droplets when young andfresh, a dull red (8C4) at first, losing the red color and becoming near yellowish brown (5E8) with age. Stipe 5-9 cm long, 1-2 cm broad, ±equal to slightly broader below, alveolate reticulate, moist to dry, subviscid at base, (7C6) when young, redder with age, often pale yellow at apex when young; interior pale yellow, changing to blue when exposed, solid. Note: the pores and stipe reticulum are not as red as the Northeastern USA material I've seen. Phenology of specimen: Basidiomata.
