Habitat
Fine gravelly soil on ridge and east-facing slope. At the edge of Abies lasiocarpa/Pinus albicaulis subslpine forest with Juncus parryi, Xerophyllum tenaxm and on barren risge with Phyllodoce empetriformis and Phlox diffusa. Common.

Description
Stems mostly loosely repent and forming loose mats up to 0.3 m. broad; leaves mostly succulent, puberulent, becoming glabrous and stronly reflexed in age, the apex obtuse to acute; inflorescence unbellate, involucrate, the flowers mostly 4-5; corolla salverform, mostly 6-10 mm. long, pink to magenta, the limb ca. 7 mm. broad. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
