Habitat
General vegetation: campo cerrado on upland (or occasionally forest). Open marsh of dense secondary forest along streams. This habitat: slightly degraded campo cerrado. Shrubs & small trees twisted by former fires, forming an open thicket. Ground cover of grasses & herbs. Soil poor, light reddish-brown fine sand with a little clay.

Description
Taproot 2 cm. diam. at crown. Fls. bright pink-scarlet. Filaments white, anthers yellow. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
