Specimen Notes
Annotation by Jackie Kallunki, 28 Oct 1981: This specimens is Xylopia usitata Diels. In fact, it may be the type collection of this species (Tessmann 3217) but has, however, the wrong label. A specimen of Licania britteniana Fritsch from Bassler's herbarium bears the label for the type collection of X. usitata (Tessmann 3217). These two specimens probably were received in the same shipment at NY (see # 3717 near the herbarium stamp on both sheets), and the labels were mixed-up. Furthermore, as one of a series of "Photographs of the Bassler's herbarium," a photo of the specimen of Licania britteniana with the number 3217 was distributed with a label indicating it to be the type of Xylopia usitata. The two specimens have been filed under their correct species names and the photo under Xylopia usitata. All have copies of this note attached.
