Habitat
In deeply cut arroyo-defile on pre-Cambrian granite overlain by limestone; also on more open limestone slopes in soil; also on primarily E-N-facing cliffs. With Rhus choriophylla, Dasylirion, Bouteloua curtipendula, Artemisia ludoviciana, Larrea, Atriplex canescens, Fouquieria splendens, Baccharis laciniata, Aristida, Croton fruticulosus, Fallugia, Cercocarpus, Lesquerella purpurea, Dalea formosa, Salvia henryi, Forsellsia.

Description
Reprods frequent; flowering plants sptradic, occasionally grouped into "displays"; corolla bright orange-red. Phenology of specimen: Fertile, Flower, Fruit.
