  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Because the Rio Cachoeira branches into two rivers which run parallel just as it passes the CEPEC compound (which then reform on the other side), georeferenced to a point along the shore of the branch of the Rio Cachoeira which runs closest to CEPEC, and is closest to the midpoint of that section of river between the E and W boundaries of the CEPEC grounds, in Mun. Ilhéus, Bahia. Using Google Maps - Satellite View located the CEPLAC/CEPEC complex. Verified the location of the complex using Wikimapia, and Google Maps - Street View. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, again, located the branch of the Rio Cachoeira nearest to CEPEC, and used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to approximate the midpoint of the section of this branch of the river between the E and W boundaries of the CEPEC grounds. Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs, found the coordinates of a point along the shore closest to this midpoint. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps), again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the most distant point along the other (parallel) branch of the Rio Cachoeira that is also within the E-W bounds of the CEPEC grounds (-14.8038165 -39.2233613). Input coordinates, linear extent (1877.45 m), and measurement error into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: River, stream, road, path / More than one possibility: Non-overlapping, related).
